Bisons are North America's largest land mammal and can weigh over 900 kgs (1 ton)! They have been a conservation success story, having existed since the prehistoric times. In 2016 a legislation was passed in the United States to officially recognise the bison as their national animal as a symbol of the strength and resilience of the American people.
